Stormshadow actually worked another miracle this year and built an awesome
Limited Edition DBS in Slime Green for me. Equipped with Seymour Duncan
Pickups that howl and Floyd Rose which keeps the tuning nice and stable.
The finish is 1st class withought a doubt, the finest materials have been
used here including some of the best Birdseye Maple I have ever seen. The
best part of this review is the fact that the man himself delivered this
guitar to me moments before walking on stage to start a 2 hour set - well
I can report the guitar performed perfectly, held its tuning, turned heads
and screamed like a demon !!!!

Thanks again Stormshadow

Stormshadow Custom Guitars have done me very proud, they have supplied me an amazing instrument which surpasses any ESP, Jackson or Ibanez I have ever played.

I chose a DBS body loaded with Seymour Duncan pickups, Floyd Rose and Birds Eye Maple neck - and the thing just rocks ! All the tones are there from Metal, Hard Rock, Blues and Jazz and I will certainly  stand out on stage with the lush Ferrari Red paint job. Stormshadow understood my requirements in full, they kept in close contact with me throughout the build process paying lots of attention to detail. I could't be happier (well I guess another one would be nice !) - and thanks guys for making a dream come true. I will be in touch very soon.

First of all I wish to thank Rich at Stormshadow for making such brilliant instruments.
For the past 20+ years I have used Charvels, MusicMan, Kramers, Gibsons, Fenders, JayDee, Ibanez, PRS, Patrick Eggle, Tokai, Jackson, Valley Arts and ESP.  A long list of guitars!
At the end of the day, I found out I was spending a small fortune on guitars made for other people!  At last, STORMSHADOW listen to what YOU want and build YOU something which is better than what you imagined.
Unlike larger guitar companies, who 'have' to use particular pickups and hardware - Stormshadow gave me so many choices such as Tremelo systems (Floyd original, Speedloader or Kahler) and Pick ups (Seymour Duncan, EMG, DiMarzio, Bare Knuckle....) so I got exactly what I wanted.  No messing about swapping hardware later (yes in the past I have swapped the pickups in a £2K guitar....).
The fretwork is brilliant.  The guitar gets tuned up at soundcheck then I dont have to check it again until the next time it comes out of the case - its as stable as anything.
If you asked Fender or Charvel to build you something to these specs, it would cost you £3,000 - maybe more.  That will be a mass produced body and neck as well.
I am now the happy owner of two Stormshadow axes, with another one (or two) on the wish list.
So - why bother buying a guitar that Vai/Satriani/EVH/Malmsteen likes - get a guitar in your hand that is built for you.
I will guarantee that you wont be seeing my 'shadows on eBay!

Talkin' bout Steve Vai 'wannabes' - tuther side of the Pennines is a certain Mr. C. plays Geeeetar for the Manchester based band, The mighty 'Boneyard Dogs' !!!

C. was looking for something a tad different - and at the Manchester Guitar show he found it !!! ....... Namely a Stormshadow DBS - #34  finished in the coolest 'S-lime Green' !!! after a few e-mails back & forth to proprieter Rich Atkin, C. signed on the dotted line and secured not 1 but 2 StormShadow DBS' and is more than happy to endorse !!!

C. had this to say ........

'Very, very cool, awesome shred-a-bility ! Bulldog Pick-ups that chunk - not fizz, a Neck that feels like an old friend, makes me wish I was in me 20's & 'We' were back in the 80's !!! Damn that grunge racket !!!

A certain David Lee Roth once wrote ....... "Guess who's back in circulation" - that's just how C. feels bout his new Stormshadow DBS Guitars !!!

I'm very happy with my VH150. I've been playing it all week and it plays brilliant and sounds likewise. It looks great too. When I first got it out of the case, although it was exactly what I asked for, I must admit I was somewhat shaken by its radical looks!!! Its amazing how your own ideas take on a life of their own and become more than you expected. But the graphics have sunk in during the week and now I just think it looks excellent. Everything about the guitar as an instrument is of the best quality in relation to other high spec, production line superstrats, and can compare more than respectfully with any customised Jackson, Ibanez, ESP/Ltd type guitar, at around half the price. Since when did any of those companies allow you to make up your own graphic? Whats really important is the set up, which is great: low action; fast, slimline neck; responsive, top quality Floyd Rose trem that keenly flicks back into position after being brutalised, and stays perfectly in tune; EMG pick ups with plenty of growl and crunch to spare - no need to get absurd with the GAIN on your amp, or the DRIVE on your stompbox, these pick ups can do it all on their own!!! Ovedrall my new toy gets a deserved 10/10. I'll be getting another done next year,

After years of not getting what i wanted out of stock guitars, i just wanted a nice strat style guitar the way I thought it should be built!
Why do the Big Boys always put the volume knob in just the wrong place? why have a big blocky heel? why a weedy bridge pick up?
why a trem that doesn't stay in tune? just because they've always done them like that, thats why!!!
So i figured a mahogany body for warmth, all access heel, Floyd Rose Pro trem and a chunky bridge pick up, i'd had a guitar with a scalloped neck before and really liked the feel so went with that, and always liked the reverse headstock for that Hendrix vibe as is the colour.
I have to say hands down this is the nicest sounding strat type guitar i've played and for a bolt on the sustain is nothing short of awesome.
The tone from the pick ups is great-super sweet and vocal sounding singles and ballsy at the bridge-just right.
Cheers for a great guitar Rich, now thinking about a second one! just don't tell the misses!!!

VH150 #0006:

I've had the guitar a couple of months now and am well impressed. It plays superb, nice balanced feel and a great neck, not too thin like some rock guitar necks but really comfortable and perfect for fast runs. I love the unfinished maple, really smooth and comfortable. You only realise truly how good it is until you play another guitar and then come back to it, it really is a nice neck. Intonation is spot on too.
The 'cold sweat' pick-up fitted is great for rock and metal, designed to ape John Sykes tone it provides plenty of power and drives a valve amp easily into overdrive and it's easy to get fat palm-muted chugs to screaming leads, a great tone that cuts through the mix well but without being harsh or shrill. Wind off the volume and the sound cleans up nicely a-la Van Halen, and makes for a surprisingly versatile guitar considering it's a single pup with no tone control!
An original Floyd Rose sits in the rear and lives up to it's reputation- no matter what you do this baby will not go out of tune!

To sum this guitar up I can honestly say I love the way it looks, sounds, feels and most importantly how it plays. It oozes quality and makes me want to play more and has definately improved my playing and confidence; I would never have dreamed of playing 'Hot for teacher' on my old strat!

Many thanks Rich for a great guitar, just wish I'd have bought one years ago!

Cheers,
